CHRISTMAS WREATHS

I’m not a really a holly person, (too dark, too prickly and a tad too traditional for my liking), but there’s something about a Christmas wreath that sets off the childish excitement in me. I get a ridiculous amount of pleasure from the whole idea of a Christmas wreath hung on a door heralding the festive season in. And so here we are on the cusp of Christmas again and here I am, itching to get going with my moss rings, secateurs and buckets full of foliage.

I like to work on a new look each year (I get bored easily and can’t suppress the creative in me) and intriguingly each year I find that I’m drawn to some new ‘ingredient’. This year I’m falling for gold asparagus fern, deep red ruscus, dusky blues and deep maroon velvets. The old favourites are still with me - buxus, wax flower and seeded eucalyptus.

As ever, my style is natural - nothing too tight, not too symmetrical, borderline quirky, bohemian and with a touch of Helena Bonham-Carter.

I pride myself of each one being completely hand-made (no off-the-shelf pine base), totally original and unique to you.

Alpine Christmas Wreath by Pen Klein

ALPINE

Working from a moss base, this wreath has a more traditional feel in terms of form - slightly more compact and including coniferous foliage. With white wax flower detail, pine husks, red Leucadendron and a whiff of gold asparagus leaf.

Price: £48

GOLD

My favourite this year… a full on medley of foliage set off with bronze, gold and red highlights. With miniature pine cone, gold and pink bobble detailing.

Price: £48

FOREST

Using a mix of eucalyptus and bay leaf to create the foundation, this plays around the Christmas colour palette - greens, reds and whites. With closed wax flower buds and seeded eucalyptus to create the ‘berry’ highlight and deep maroon ruscus for the drama.

Price: £48
